John Gabriel Ortiz

d. December 22, 2021

Obituary of John Gabriel Ortiz John “Johnny” Ortiz entered eternal life peacefully in his home on December 22, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. There was nothing more important to him than his own family. Married to his loving and supportive wife for 27 years, they had three amazing children who grew up to be responsible, successful, and polite young adults. He was very proud of his children and all they have accomplished. Born on April 17, 1970, Johnny was a lifelong Oxnard resident who worked hard and took pride in providing for his family and loved ones. As a youth, he was active in sports and played on several local baseball, basketball, and football teams. In keeping with his love for sports, he volunteered lots of years coaching his children in little league, basketball, and football. When he wasn’t coaching, you could see Johnny in the stands or on the sidelines supporting his kids and their teams. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Johnny. He loved spending one-on-one time with his wife and spending time together with their children. You could often find them together at the campgrounds, traveling or at a restaurant laughing and making great memories. One of his greatest joys was being behind the barbecue grill while listening to music and watching sports. Everyone knew he was a die-hard Raiders, Dodgers, and Lakers fan. As a generally private person, Johnny kept his circle small. He was a caring man always willing to help family and close friends. At family gatherings, Johnny would take time to sit with family members to see how they were doing and share life stories. He would often call and follow up to make sure family members were ok. Johnny was preceded in death by his grandmothers Maria Banales and Cecilia Thomas; his grandfather's Juan Banales and Jesus Ortiz; and his step-father, George Vengroski. Johnny is survived by his wife, Francine, and his three children, Andrew, Alexis, and Christina; his mother, Margaret Vengroski; father, Michael Ortiz, Sr.; his brothers Michael Ortiz, Jr. (Melisa) and Larry Ortiz (Cherie); his sisters, Veronica Ortiz-Avila and Shardi Fontes; his in-laws, Robert and Gloria Ronquillo and Stephanie (Jose) Moncada; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Although Johnny elected not to have full services, there will be a small private Celebration of Life at a later date. He wished for everyone to cherish their fond memories of him as he was. He will truly be missed and will remain forever in our hearts.
