Elizabeth Jane Bacon

d. May 5, 2021

Life Tribute Joyful Jane! Our beloved Elizabeth Jane Bacon (Jane) went to be with her Lord Jesus on May 5, 2021, at age 96. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 62 years, Paul Horace Bacon, her parents, Lloyd Douglass Phelps & Sarah Burritt Wright Phelps, and her older brother Richard L. Phelps. Jane was the beloved mother of four: Sally, Paul, Polly, and Mary, grandmother of 9, great grandmother of 20, and great-great grandmother of 1. Jane loved God and people! After trusting in Jesus alone to be her Savior at age 16, she shared His sacrificial forgiveness and joy wherever she went. She and Paul eagerly served and inspired others to serve with church and family projects, including Cross Bar X Youth Ranch in Durango, CO, Mount Hermon Christian Camp in Felton, CA and Wycliffe Bible Translators in Texas and Scotland, After Paul died she greatly impacted a lady at the funeral home when she said, “God doesn’t always give me what I want, but He always gives me what I need!” Jane’s adventuresome spirit was shared by Paul, who took her flying on their first date and later flew her from California to Maine. They rode trains across the US, (and she with son Paul across the US and Canada,) backpacked in the Grand Canyon, hiked in Alaska and Europe, and visited family, friends, and State and National Parks across the US. She gave her family wonderful memories of camping, hiking, and singing around the piano and campfires. Her life verse was Psalm 27:4 “One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in His temple.” Jane’s jobs included working at Lord and Taylor in NYC, as a crane operator during WWII, and a dessert maker for their family business, “Paul’s Lunch,” in Scottsdale, AZ. She and Paul cooked for the Mingus Mt. Methodist Camp in AZ and Sequoia Seminar in the CA redwoods. She waitressed at Woolworths and worked as a ward clerk for Sister Madonna at the Dominican Santa Cruz Hospital, but mainly she was a wonderful homemaker. The family would like to thank Gigi and staff of Brookhaven Residential Care in Camarillo and Mission Hospice for their tender care of our beloved mother. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to her favorite camps: Cross Bar X Youth Ranch, 2111 Co Rd 222, Durango, CO 81303 (970) 259-2716 theranch@crossbarx.org. Mt Hermon Conference Center, 37 Conference Dr, Felton, CA 95018 (831) 335-4466 mounthermon.org. A memorial service is planned for a later date.
