Obituary of Joseph Kenneth Lopez

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart) i am never without it (anywhere i go you go my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling)” -E.E.Cummings It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph Kenneth Lopez AKA Kenny announce his passing on the evening of Monday, March 1, 2021 at the age of 52 after a brief illness. He is truly missed. Kenny was born in Oxnard, California on September 23, 1968 to Joe and Mary Jane Lopez. Kenny grew up in Camarillo and later moved to Oxnard where he resided for over 20 years. He was a great Lakers and Seahawks fan and because he was a Lakers fan, he despised everything and anything Boston and the color green. It was a dark day in the Lopez home when Chick Hearn, Jerry Buss and Kobe passed away with his daughter Gigi. He loved the Showtime Lakers. Kenny’s knowledge of basketball was so great that during the basketball games Kenny would make a comment regarding stats or previous games before Stu Lanz or Bill Macdonald would say it and would be very proud of himself for saying it first. When the Lakers would win, he would do the James Worthy clap. The Seahawks were his favorite football team, and you would often catch Kenny wearing the Seahawks fluorescent green and navy-blue colors. He would not stand for anyone talking bad about his beloved Seahawks. Even on his death bed he refused to believe that Russel Wilson would be going to the Las Vegas Raiders. He loved music and he shared his love of music with his daughters. His music tastes ranged from classic rock to old school, reggae and alternative music. He passed on the love of music to his daughters who now have great memories of conversations they had with their Dad and music to help them heal. On his downtime you could catch Kenny watching his cooking videos on YouTube. They were not regular Food Network videos but more exotic videos of how food was cooked in different areas of the world. He loved food and was not afraid to taste new things, including eating Balut one night with friends. He enjoyed spending time with his family and always made sure his wife and daughters were ok and did not need anything. His daughters were his pride and joy. He loved them so much and talking about them always put a smile on his face. He always joked about living in a household full of girls including the family dog Minnie being a female. His girls were his whole world. Kenny leaves behind his wife of 20 years, Hilda. His daughter’s Jazmine and Alina. He is survived by his Dad Joe and his sister Valerie Rodriguez as well as numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. Kenny was preceded in death by his Mom, Mary Jane Lopez who passed away July 3, 2020. Visitation for Kenny wll take place at the Perez Funeral Home in Camarillo on Tuesday, March 16th from 3p to 7p. With a rosary starting at 6p. Mass will take place on Wednesday, March 17th at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church in Oxnard.
