Kenneth Nipstad

d. January 26, 2021

Kenneth F. Nipstad died peacefully at home on January 26th. He was the youngest of eight children (one dying in infancy) and grew up on a farm in Kindred, North Dakota. Graduating early from high school, he enlisted in the Navy at age 17. After his military service, Ken returned to North Dakota, where he met Margaret, the love of his life, at a dance. Ken and Margaret were married for over 71 years. One too many North Dakota winters led them to Southern California. They purchased a house in Camarillo, where they raised their six children, and have resided for 61 years. Ken worked as an electronic salesman, covering his territory from Paso Robles to Los Angeles. At home, he could fix anything, including appliances, plumbing, and auto mechanics. He also built a family room and bathroom addition onto the house. Ken and Margaret enjoyed traveling to various places including Hawaii and Mexico, and also to Ken’s ancestral homelands of Norway and Germany. But, his favorite times were spent at family gatherings, where he enjoyed barbecuing and handing out ice cream cones to his grandchildren. The most recent extended family gathering was to celebrate his 90th Birthday, attended by all of his children and most of their families. Over the years, Ken was a member of First Lutheran Church, Peace Lutheran Church, the American Legion, and the Camarillo Moose Lodge. Preceding him in death are his parents, Albert and Annie Nipstad. Also preceding him are all of his siblings, Mabel, Florence, Leona, Arnold, Wallace, Tyrell, and Martell. Survived by wife, Margaret, and his six children, Linda, Larry, Julie, Bradley, Susan and Nancy. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 18 (soon to be 19) great grandchildren. The family appreciates the care Ken received from Buena Vista Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Peace Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be held on February 4, 2021 at 2:00pm at Conejo Mountain Cemetery in Camarillo.
