Hilda “Rickie” Porras, 85, of Port Hueneme, CA came into the presence of the Lord Our Father on December 29, 2020. She was born in Ventura, CA to parents Ramona and Lupe Reyes. She attended Ramona Elementary, Wilson Junior High, and Oxnard High School. Her first employment was working at the highly acclaimed Ventura Packing House.
Rickie married the love of her life, Raymond Porras, on May 5, 1957. Rickie took a lot of pride and joy in caring for their home. Known for her Mexican food recipes and entertaining family and friends at a moment’s notice, there was always a good time to be had at the Porras’. Rickie had a flare for style, always matching her scarves with her outfits and never being seen without her makeup. Rickie also enjoyed caring for plants, watching her “stories” (novelas), crocheting, embroidering and staying in touch with family.
For many years her love for children led to working as a very popular in home childcare provider. Her reputation of maintaining a structured and loving environment, always kept her busy. It would bring a smile to her face when children would come back to visit and express how thankful they were for the time spent with her. Her own children appreciated the opportunity to learn life skills they would use with children throughout their life.
She loved her Grandsons dearly and attended as many sporting events as possible. Her grandsons gave their best when she and Grandpa Ray were present. Coaches knew the boys would step up their game and were excited when their grandparents were in attendance.
Rickie was a devout Catholic who worshiped at Mary Star of the Sea. She would pray for anyone in need, visit and pray with residents in nursing homes, and was prayerful to the end.
Rickie was preceded in death by her parents Lupe and Ramona Reyes, husband Raymond, daughter Monica, grandson Elijah Danell, and brother Rudy Reyes.
Survived by her children: Tom Porras (wife Bunny) of Scottsdale, AZ, Yvonne Nether of Chandler, AZ, and Daniel Porras of Oxnard, CA.
