Grace Carone passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008.
She was born on March 8, 1938, to Francisco and Jennie Rodriguez. Grace was raised, educated, and lived most of her life in Moorpark, where her parents settled in the mid-1920s.
Grace earned her Association of Arts degree from Moorpark College in 1982.
She was a voracious reader and collector of books. This was an interest that began to develop as a teenager during her recuperation from a serious bout with tuberculosis. Her favorite book was "Jane Erye" by Charlotte Brontë.
Grace was also a passionate dancer. When asked recently what styles she danced, she answered, "everything". She regularly attended dances. Sometimes, as many as five dances a week.
She was an artist who painted for most of her life. She began traditionally by imitating the paintings of masters. And over the years she developed her own sense of color and composition.
Grace loved to travel. Over the years she traveled throughout Mexico and visited many European countries.
She is survived by her daughter Joanne Thomson (UC Berkley) and husband Kimball living Utah, James Lopez (UCLA, B.A., music) living in Los Angeles, Robert Lopez (UCLA, B.A., political science), Cooley Law, J.D.) living in Camarillo, Brian Lopez (CSUN, B.A., economics) living in Moorpark, and Bobby (Cal Lutheran, B.A., Religion) and his wife Alicia living in Cottonwood, Calif.; three grandchildren, Marissa, Ayden, and Isaiah; and four brothers, Homer, Ernest, Valentine, and Richard Rodriguez.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Carone.
