Oxnard David Lyle Johnson David Johnson passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, after a short battle with cancer. His loving brother, John, was at his side. He is survived by his daughters Rita, Dixie, and Phyllis. David was born on April 14, 1926, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. After attending Oshkosh High School, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp. in 1941. He was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi, where he met his first wife, Rosanna. He served in the Navy during World War II reaching the rank of Yeoman Third Class. After the war, he enlisted in the Air Force. He was stationed at March Air Force Base, and in 1951, met his second wife, Betty. He was a Crew Chief servicing aircraft, and held the rank of Staff Sergeant. After leaving the Air Force, David worked in retail sales and management in Riverside, Los Angeles, and Alhambra, California. David earned his Associate of Arts in Psychology degree from San Bernardino Valley College in 1964. In 1966 the family moved from Riverside to Alhambra where David completed his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Psychology in 1972 from California State College, Los Angeles. David and Betty were long time parishioners of All Soul’s Catholic Church. Betty passed away in 2006 after nearly 55 years of marriage. David was active as a youth in ice hockey, ice skating, skiing, hunting, and ice fishing. He loved to play golf. He was interested in ministry work and reaching out to others. He was a passionate and enthusiastic convert to the Catholic Church, making a pilgrimage to Rome in his later years. A wonderful father to Rita, he was a dedicated and loving caretaker of his second wife, Betty, for twenty-seven years after she became disabled, until she died. The funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at All Soul’s Catholic Church, 17 S. Electric Avenue, Alhambra, California, 91801, (626) 281-0466. Interment will be at noon on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Mt. View Cemetery in San Bernardino, California, 909-882-0244.
