Wilma A. (Edington) Gilmore passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, July 20, 2009 with family and friends surrounding her.
Wilma was born June 16, 1915, in the state of Missouri, Ozark Township in Lawrence County. Her parents were Arthur Cleveland Edington and Mary Laura Hopper. Her brother Willard and sister Marjorie both predeceased her. Her father farmed a quarter section of Land in Lawrence County, Missouri. Wilma attended a country grammar school with her brother and sister. Wilma and her sister stayed with her aunt Sereen in Everton, Missouri while they attended Everton High School in Dade County, Missouri.
After graduating from high school, she went to work in the hospital in Mount Vernon, Missouri. In the month of December 1938, she took the train to California and was married to Herschel H. Gilmore. His aunt Tess and Uncle Oscare were in attendance at their wedding in Fullerton, CA. At that time Herschel worked for C.C.M.O. in Torrance and they lived in Redondo, CA. Soon after they moved to Ventura. Herschel worked at the Rincon at C.C.M.O. as a shipping Gauger. In December, 1940, their son was born. In 1942 they moved back to the farm in Dade County Missouri. In 1945, they moved back to Ventura and Herschel went to work for McCullogh Tool Company. They shared a life together for over 50 years. Herschel passed away on July 1993.
Wilma was quite active with the family and loved to cook and bake. During the 1950s she was active with the little womans club in Ventura. Wilma was a resident of Ventura for more than 65 years.
She is survived by her son John A. Gilmore of Ventura, grandsons John A. (wife Chari) Gilmore II of La Crescenta, Kevin Gilmore of San Pedro, granddaughter, Pamela M. (Gilmore) (husband Bill) Giardino of Rio Vista, great granddaughters Jessica K. Giardino of Rio Vista and Allie Joan Gilmore of La Crescenta. Great grandson John A. Gilmore III of LaCrescenta.
