Waywona “Waysie” Sutton; Ventura, California
Waysie Sutton, age 95, gently passed away in her sleep with her daughter, Debbie, by her side. She was born June 12, 1917 in Knoxville, Tennessee and a 60 year resident of Ventura County. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family.
Waysie married George Sutton in 1945 shortly after a double-date with George’s sister Gladys and her future husband Charlie. George enlisted in the Navy and was stationed at Port Hueneme Naval Base. Waysie soon followed and rented a small bungalow in downtown Ventura. It was rumored that George would often sneak off base to be with his beautiful wife.
During the “war years”, Waysie supported the effort by using her skills as a seamstress and took pride in building parachutes and repairing uniforms for the Greatest Generation. As years passed, Waysie became a dedicated and devoted homemaker for George and their children, Ron, Dick, Bob and Debbie. She always enjoyed their many years of camping, boating, and water skiing with family and friends.
Waysie was predeceased in death by her husband, George; son, Bob; grandson, Mitch; and life-long friends, Walt and Cleo Worley. She is survived by Ron Sutton (Jan) from Klamath Falls, Oregon; Dick (Sue) from Angel Fire, New Mexico; Debbie (Don) Keegan, from Ventura, California and Sue (Tom) Tatangelo, from Oxnard, California; grandchildren Jeff (Becky) Sutton; Matt (Susan) Sutton; John (Lisa) Sutton; Kim (Rob) Wood; Bonnie Sutton and Jeremiah Sutton; Scott Sutton; Danna Sutton; Tyler Sutton; Garrett Sutton; John Beabout; Travis Beabout; Tara Tatangelo and Clayton Powers. Waysie is also survived by her great grandchildren, Connor and Max Sutton; Jayden and Jonah Sutton; Carly, Cody, Cassy and Gracie Sutton; Kelsea Sutton; Shannon Holt, Zachary and Elizabeth Sutton, Faith, David and Sheena Wood; Haighly Campbell and Taylor Sutton; Jameson and Cash Sutton; and nephew, David Stalsworth.
Waysie will always be remembered for her lovingly dedication to family, her down-home sweet spirit, incredible sense of humor, and her love for Poker and Scrabble.
A memorial and celebration of Waysie’s life will be held on Friday, October 26, at 12:00 pm at Perez Family Funeral Home. Burial immediately following the service at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.
