Walter Robert Slater

October 20, 1938 — February 11, 2023

Walter Robert Slater was Born on October 20, 1938, in Tacoma, Washington to Robert and Isabel Slater. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 84 on February 11, 2023. He married the love of his life, Catherine Slater, on February 20, 1960, and passed away just before they were to celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Walter served in the US Navy as a communications technician and electrician from August 23, 1952 – November 9, 1978. He was a former Vietnam war veteran and throughout his career was stationed in various locations in Washington, California, Oregon, and Australia. After retiring from the military, he also worked for Sears and GTE/Verizon.

He loved to travel and take his family on vacation to visit various states and their attractions. Mom didn’t like to fly or travel by boat, so car travel was the mode of transportation for the family. He enjoyed going to amusement parks, museums, and national parks. In addition to traveling, he loved watching old movies and TV shows. He was a fan of the NASA channel and enjoyed watching anything related to space, this included Buck Rogers and Star Trek.

Whenever he had the opportunity, he enjoyed visiting casinos to play the slot machines and taking our mom to bingo. He loved playing the CA lottery and scratching lottery tickets.

Walter is survived by his wife Catherine “Cathy” Slater. Four children: Pam Slater (Steve), Sandra Rogers (John), Kevin Slater, and Susan Garcia (David). Five grandchildren: Sarah Jensen, Kristine Williams (Kristopher), Allen Rogers, Brianna Garcia, and Aliyah Garcia. Five great grandchildren: Kaidyn Jensen, Kyleigh Jensen, Liam Jensen, Noah Dominguez, and Grayson Williams.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Robert B. Slater and Isabel J.E. Slater, sisters Joanne Christensen and Jannetta Baxter.

Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and his final resting place will be in Seattle, Washington next to his parents and sister, Joanne.
