WALTER P. NORRIS (February 25, 1935 – October 9, 2013) Our beloved husband and father, WALTER P. NORRIS, age 78, passed away on October 9, 2013, at his home of 45 years in Oak View, CA after a courageous battle with cancer. His strong Christian beliefs sustained him throughout his life. He was born on February 25, 1935 in Santa Ana, CA to Albert and Clara Norris. He attended Orange H.S. And went on to graduate with an AA degree from Santa Ana College. He is survived by his sweetheart of 55 years, whom he married on June 28, 1958 in Anaheim, CA. In addition, he is survived by his sister, four children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild. Walt’s many interests and hobbies included reading, walking the Ojai-Ventura trail (he walked at least 5-7 miles each day), model airplane building and flying (he flew models at Disneyland’s Flight Circle in 1956, including flying 3 planes at a time in a dogfight, one in each hand and one in his mouth) bicycling (he rode the Sea to Summit Century Ride for 17 years). He enjoyed gardening and his friends and neighbors were more than happy to receive his home grown tasty apricots and pears. He loved all animals and his last pet is known by many as Toby the tortoise. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and was stationed in Korea and Seattle, WA. He and his wife eventually moved north to Ventura Co. due to a job change and built their home in Oak View in 1969. He retired in 1997 from the USPO Camarillo station. Walt is fondly remembered as a warm and caring man. He loved meeting new people and had a knack for making them feel like he’d known them for years. He had a warm smile that melted the heart of all who knew him. He will be dearly missed. Please join us at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19th. for a memorial service to be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1290 E. Grand Ave., Ojai.
