Voss Morris Mitchell passed quietly from his sleep into the arms of his Savior at 6:45 am on Friday, September 9. Voss was the son of Tom and Mary Mitchell, and is survived by his wife of 69 years, Wanda Ruth, his two sons, Butch and Steve, six grandchildren, Mandy, Ryan, Hanna, Daniel, Ben, and Sara, and Noah and two great grandchildren, Drew and Llewellyn.Voss was born in Tuckerman, Arkansas in 1920. The son of a sharecropper, he was driving a mule team while barefoot at the age of nine, to help support the family. Voss had five half brothers and sisters: McKinley, Rudolph, Hubert, Molly, and Lucille; sisters Verneil, Verneice and Pauline and brother Marvin Mitchell. Voss moved to Fillmore from Arkansas in 1943, and worked for Rancho Sespe, Emery Leagan, and did carpenter work with his brother, before going to work at Port Hueneme naval base. Voss developed great woodworking skills and for years worked as a master woodworker, constructing cabinets, homes and helping with the construction of the Assembly of God churches in Fillmore and Ventura. The two great loves in Voss's life were his God, who he shared constantly with others, and the love of his life Wanda, whom he married at 16. They spent their honeymoon at the Ventura County Fair. Voss never met a stranger, and was happiest when talking to a friend. He always exemplified Christ to his friends and family and will be greatly missed until the day we all again gather together.
