Vivian Rose Major passed away peacefully on April 9, 2010, in Oxnard at the age of 88.
Vivian was born in Ojai to Rose and Nelson J. Cota on April 7, 1922, and was a lifelong resident of Ventura County. She met her future husband, George Major, when she was in her teens, and after graduating from high school and attending Ventura Junior College, she and George were married. Vivian was caring and helpful, especially where her parents were concerned because family was always the most important part of her life. Bill, her son, brought her such happiness, and she devoted her boundless energy to keeping a well organized home, flower arranging, and taking care of her family. The best description of Vivian was vivacious, loving and giving.
Vivian was employed at the U.S. Naval Base at Port Hueneme most of her working years, retiring as editor of the base newspaper, Interface. Vivian was loved by many.
She is survived by her son, William Major (Gail); brother, Robert Cota (Barbara); sisters, Doris Carswell, Janet Wight (Charles), Marjorie Estes; sister-in-law, Audrey Cota; grandchildren, Paige Rains, Phillip Major (Sally), Margaret Cassanelli, Elizabeth Gregg (David); great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson and Rose Cota; husband, George; brother, Nelson B. Cota; sisters, Jean Van Noort, Florence Davidson, Miriam Nielsen, and her friend, Harold Smith.
