Virginia Blas Cruz, formerly Virginia Cruz Hiton, was raised on the island of Guam in the village of Barrigada. She attended Barrigada Elementary School from the first thru the eighth grade and continued thru to her high school education at George Washington High. Upon graduation, Virginia enlisted in the W.A.V.E.S(Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Services), a division of the US Navy that consisted entirely of women. During this time she met her husband and bore four children in the coming years. As her husband was in the military, she traveled to numerous locations throughout the world, which consisted of California, South Carolina, Spain, Virginia, Texas, Hawaii, Washington and of course Guam, the land she loved dearly. During her time in Washington & California, she devoted countless hours to the family’s martial arts studio. While on “her” island, she was employed with the US Postal Service from 1986 – 2005, the year of her retirement. Upon retirement, she traveled from Guam to California consistently to visit her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino with the “Golden Girls” or as everyone would say the “Breakfast Club”. She was loved by all who had the pleasure of meeting her and know that she will be missed dearly. She passed peacefully at St. Johns Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, Ca. after a sudden illness, surrounded by her loving family and close friends.
