Virginia Jennie Barrera
1970-2022
Virginia “Gina” Barrera gained her wings on January 6, 2022 at the age of 51. She was surrounded by family in her childhood home when God called her to Heaven.
Gina was born on January 11, 1970 to Manuel and Bertha Barrera in Moorpark, California. As the eldest of four children, Gina led by example graduating from Moorpark High School in 1988. She enjoyed playing many sports during her youth including soccer, softball, and volleyball. She furthered her academic career at Moorpark College where she received her Associate’s Degree in Administration of Justice-Corrections in 1991. Gina worked as a claims representative at State Farm and Farmers Insurance, serving her local community for over 15 years.
Gina was a kind-hearted and loving person, known and loved by many. She was a dog mom, and spent much time with her beloved dog Picasso. Gina enjoyed spending time and vacationing with family and friends. One of her most favorite was her annual spring break trip with her nieces and nephews, and one of her best friends Tracey Mateko. She spent this time riding roller coasters, ordering room service, lounging on beaches, and spoiling her nieces and nephews. She also loved camping in Yosemite and June Lake with her family and friends. Gina was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed attending her favorite teams’ events. She was a USC Football season ticket holder, and could also often be found at Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Dodgers games.
Gina will be remembered for her beautiful and loving soul. She had a bright smile and an infectious laugh that made time spent with her so memorable. Gina was known to be outgoing and fun, and was the most loyal friend. In her time here with us she has touched so many, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and love.
Gina is survived by her parents Manuel and Bertha Barrera; sister Andrea (Wallace) Boggess, and brothers Manuel (Annette) Barrera, and David Barrera; godchildren Karissa Rodriguez, Danielle Boggess, Anthony Perez and Michael Boggess; and niece and nephew Leanna Barrera and Manuel Barrera.
