MOORPARK, Ventura County Pioneer, Transito Robert Corralejo
8/15/16 – 7/19/10
Transito R. Corralejo was born in the San Bernardino area in 1916. In a few months, his father, Albino, mother, Jacinta, and family moved to Moorpark to live near Transito’s grandfather, Lucio, brothers, Jesus and Jose, sister, Tomasa, and several cousins who had settled there, many years earlier.
Most family members had built houses on Charles Street where Transito lived until until 1978, when he moved with his wife Celia to Camarillo. He attended both Moorpark elementary and high school and participated in the Junior Track and Field Olympics as a sprinter.
Transito married Celia Salazar from Alhambra in 1940. He is survived by Celia and three of their four children, Linda, and her husband Tony Miranda, Sylvia, and her husband Bob Armstrong, and George and his wife Lupe. Their son, Robert passed away three years ago. He is also survived by several grand children, Diana, Stephen, Mark, Denise, Christina, Joseph, Jovanna, Jessica, and Tony.
Transito’s sharp memory greatly assisted the Ventura County Museum’s oral history project. In 1979, he retired from the County of Ventura.
A mass for Transito will be held Friday, July 23 at 10:00am located at St. Mary Magdalen Chapel in Camarillo. Burial will follow at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo.
