Teresa Janet Sanchez – Oxnard, CA.
October 3, 1955 – October 31, 2017
It is with a heavy heart that the family of Teresa Janet Sanchez, announce the passing of our beautiful mother, nana, sister and tia on October 31, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. Teresa fought her disease for over four and a half years, while also continuing to live a life full of love and joy here on this earth. She touched countless lives and hearts in her 62 years, and leaves a legacy filled with faith, love and light for all who loved her.
Teresa is preceded in death by her father Ralph Rivas and mother Grace E. Martinez, both of Oxnard. She is survived by her children, Lydia Macen, Monica Sanchez Cortez (Lisa Sanchez Cortez), Erica Sanchez, Manuel Sanchez Jr, Rachelle Cardona, Reyna Cardona, and 16 grandchildren; Jacob Sanchez, Logan and Jessica Baker, Carlo Torres, Angeline Santiago, Miranda, Gregory Jr, Christian, and Maya Macen, Donavin and Donell Abair, Luis Jr and Ariana Ramirez, Kaiya Mesa, Grace Deonier and Maximiliano Torres Jr. She was the youngest of 11 siblings; Clara, Adeline, Georgia, Stella, Eugene, Froilyn, Patricia, Irene, Alfred and Louie, and had many nieces and nephews. She also had 10 siblings in the Rivas family.
Teresa attended Oxnard High School where she met her husband of 32 years, Manuel Sanchez Sr. Her greatest accomplishment in life was that of creating an amazing family and instilling great core values and teachings during their time together. Teresa graduated from Oxnard College in 2013, where she received her certificate in Addictive Disorder Studies in which she desired to help those in need. Prior to returning to college, Teresa spent time working for community organizations such as Rainbow Family Services, and Tri-Counties Regional Center where she was a liaison for families of children with disabilities.
Teresa loved attending community events, concerts, dancing, and living in the moment. She was a very creative woman who read, painted and wrote poetry in her personal time. Her beautiful smile, laughter and fun sense of humor will also be greatly remembered. Teresa was a woman like no other. Her grand example of unconditional love and faith is what she would be proud to be remembered for.
On behalf of our family we would like to thank Dr. Daniel Kim and the wonderful support staff at VCMC Oncology for all the loving care they provided during her battle.
Viewing and Memorial Service for Teresa will be held on Thursday, November 9 at 6:00pm at the Perez Family Funeral Home in Camarillo, CA. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 10 at 11:00am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints, located at 3301 W Gonzales Road in Oxnard.
