Soledad (Sally) Lagos, beloved wife, mom, grandma, great grandma, first baseman for the Hernandez boys’ baseball team, window display designer for The Popular Department Store (El Paso, Tx), nurse’s aide, keeper of birthdates and anniversaries, and forever optimist, passed away on October 28th after a short illness at home, with family and in peace, as she wished. Mom was 94.
Mom was the 6th child of 10 of Leonardo and Josefina Hernandez. She was born in El Paso, Texas, February 20, 1929. She loved her large family and enjoyed recalling the many adventures of the Hernandez family, from the coordination for the cooking and enjoyment of family meals around the large dining table, tending the fruit and vegetable garden, caring for the chickens and roosters, to her brothers waiting for her to finish washing dishes to join the baseball team, but refusing to come help her and her sisters so she could finish faster, to joining her parents in prayer as her 3 older brothers were deployed to war at the same time, all of whom returned home safely. Mom originally met Dad as young teens when Mom was visiting with her buddy, Julia Lagos (Dad’s sister). Dad was not happy with his sister’s buddy’s visits because he would be asked to vacate the family area while the friends visited. Fortunately, many years later, during a blind date - Mom and Dad reconnected. They looked at each other and said – ah, we know each other. They married June of 1953 and in 1962 relocated to Los Angeles and then Oak View, CA.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents Leonardo and Josefina Hernandez and her husband, Ralph M. Lagos, son and daughter-in-law Eddie and Belinda Lagos and her siblings, Maria, Jose, Nate, Miguel, Rosario, Margarita, Carlos, and Esteban. She is survived by her little brother, Leo (Mary) Hernandez of Yorba Linda, children Carmen (Mark) Gordon of Oxnard, Anna (Dr. Kevin) Flaig of Murrieta, Art Lagos of Oxnard and Irene Berban of Oak View, grandchildren Tiffany and Krystal Bloomingdale of Oxnard, Annissa (JJ) Muse of Oxnard, Dana (Ben) Sayet of Las Cruces NM, Keenan (Amanda) Flaig of LaVerne, Kelsey (Joey Hansen) Flaig of Murrieta, Adam and Christian Lagos of Oxnard, Brook and Jaymee Berban of Oak View, and her much adored great-grandchildren Jasiah and Jada Muse, Riley Hansen, Noah Sayet, and numerous much loved nieces and nephews and their families.
Our sincere thanks to Livingston Nurses (Darylyn), Livington Hospice (Carol and Stephanie) and Mom’s caretakers (Addy and Christina) for your kind and comforting care of Mom.
