Russell “Russ” Edward Spencer Sr. passed away peacefully on January 29th, 2018 in Moorpark, California.
Russ is survived by his wife, Esther; children, Russ Jr., Trish, Rick and Karen; sister, Janice; and his grandchildren, Shawna, Ricky, Jessica, Josh, Cody, and Rylie; and great-grandchildren, Madison, Aly, Lucy, and Landon. He is preceded by his granddaughter Katie.
Russ was born on September 24, 1932 in Chicago, IL. He married Esther in 1954 and was blessed with a large and loving family. He and Esther raised 4 wonderful children with patience, kindness, humor and compassion. He inspired and encouraged them to pursue their dreams and support each other. He often welcomed friends into his home, where he treated them as family. His family and friends remember him as a devoted and loving father, a witty and supportive grandfather and great-grandfather, and a great storyteller.
Russ was an accomplished artist and often could be found with a pencil and sketchpad. He enjoyed watching the Lakers play basketball, dancing, bingo, bowling, and spending time with his family. He was a dedicated and passionate volunteer with the California Emergency Mobile Patrol, aiding the police department in search and rescue and other critical cases.
A Mass service to celebrate Russell’s life is scheduled for Friday, February 9, 2018 at 10 am. It will be located at St. Rose of Lima Church, 1305 Royal Avenue Simi Valley, CA 93065. Rosary will be held before the Mass at 9:30 am
The burial will be held at 12:15 pm located at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, 11160 Stranwood Avenue, Mission Hills, CA 91345.
