Roger Durazo

November 12, 1954 — December 7, 2024

Roger Durazo, born on November 12, 1954, in Torrance, CA, passed away on December 7, 2024, after a short battle with illness. He was the fourth son of Ralph and Virginia Durazo, and was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Lombardo and Ralph Jr. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Tresierras Durazo; his children from his first marriage, Ryan (Meike) Durazo and Justin Durazo; his mother, Virginia Durazo; his brother Arnold Durazo; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Roger was a larger-than-life presence, known as the "life of the party" who brought energy and warmth into any room he entered. A beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Nino, uncle, cousin, and friend, Roger’s love and kindness touched everyone he knew.

A proud graduate of Adolfo Camarillo High School, Roger was an accomplished athlete, his name along with his basketball teammates are still honored on the gymnasium wall, as CIF Champs. In 1972, Roger, along with his growing family, moved to Houston, Texas, following his brother Lombardo. There, he learned to drive garbage trucks and mechanic work. After several years, the Durazo family returned to Southern California to be near their parents and extended family. Roger then began a successful 30+ year career in the construction industry as a cement mason, working in concrete until his retirement late last year.

Roger’s greatest joy in life came from his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather. He made time for each of his grandchildren, often traveling out of state to spend time with them and lend a helping hand. He was the proud grandparent of Chyan, Mailani, Ryan Jr., Annika, Kyeler, Walker, Donovan, and Mesha, and a great-grandfather to Leilani, Talei, and a great-grandson on the way. Roger also embraced his role as a stepfather to Chris (Meaghan) Javier and Michael (Renee) Meirelles, and bonus grandfather to Megan, Abigail, Brandon, Cyrus, John, and Sydney. He was also a godfather to Adrienne.

In his free time, Roger loved playing softball, golfing, and watching football. He was an avid fan of USC, the Raiders, and the Rams.

Roger's passing leaves a profound sadness in our hearts, but we take comfort in the countless memories he left behind. He would not want us to mourn, but instead to share the joy, laughter, and love he brought into our lives. His spirit and legacy will live on in each of us as we remember him with smiles and stories.

A funeral service will be held in his honor on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Chapel, 2532 Ventura Blvd, Camarillo with a luncheon immediately following at the McCarty home.
