Rodney Abel Saavedra, passed away on August 26, 2023 at home with his family following a hard fought battle with cancer.
Rodney was born to Abel and Jennie Saavedra on August 11, 1970 in Oxnard, California. He attended St Anthony’s and Santa Clara Catholic schools, graduating from Santa Clara High in 1988. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserves and earned his Associates of Arts degree from Oxnard College.
Rodney had an entrepreneurial spirit that led him to multiple ventures, most of them successful but each providing valuable learning experiences. Rodney spent most of his career as a licensed health insurance agent where he enjoyed helping and mentoring people.
Rodney gave back to the community, volunteering as an AYSO coach and referee, working the kids’ school events and many years as donut man for the Knights of Columbus. And you could always count on Rodney on moving day.
Rodney met Kathy Carrillo in 1991; a coworker became a friend and eventually the friendship evolved into an enduring love. They were married in 1997, making their home and raising their family in Camarillo, California.
Rodney was extremely proud of his children, Nicholas and Sophia. He often said that everything he did was for his family. His fight against cancer was to spend more time with Nicholas and Sophia and to see their ongoing accomplishments. It gave him great pride and joy to know that Nicholas graduated from college and Sophia is to graduate later this year.
Rodney enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling and discovering new restaurants; golfing, watching sporting events and having a beer with the guys.
Rodney is survived by Kathy his wife of 26 years, son Nicholas, daughter Sophia, father Abel, brothers Dominic and Andrew (Christina) and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Anthony Abel and mother Jennie.
A Rosary will be held September 12, 2023 at 9:30 AM immediately followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM both at St Mary Magdalen Church, 25 N Las Posas Road, Camarillo, California.
