Robert S. Lund, Sr. was known to all of his friends as simply “Bob”, but was also known as Husband, Dad, Grandad, and friend. He died on August 6, 2015. He was 86 years old. Born October 28, 1928 in Sioux City, Iowa, to Christian & Elsie Lund originally from Denmark. He joined the Navy in August of 1946 at the age of 17. There, he served as a 3 rd class metalsmith until September 1949. He then went on to continue as a metalsmith 1 st class between the years of 1949-1953 on the USS Boxer, where he bravely fought in the Korean War. He would then finished his military career on the USS Norton Sound, where he reported to from 1953 until 1957. On September 16, 1961 he married Imogene Abrams. At that time, not only was he a father to his son, Robert S. Lund, Jr. from a previous marriage, but he became a loving step-father to Imogene’s five children from her previous marriage.
They had a daughter, Constance (Conni).
Bob continued his civilian career as a sheet metal worker, and was employed by UCLA. He retired in 1991. He lost his wife weeks later, and became the patriarch of the family. He focused his time on his family, was a active member in the Culver City Elks Lodge, Sons of Norway and the American Legion. He enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and Laughlin with the Culver City Senior Center. He was also an long time Los Angeles Dodger fan.
Survivors include his son, Robert Lund, Jr (Caroline), daughter Conni (Jason) Bittinger, step-daughter Carol Hall, step-sons Mike (Alicia) Kidwell and Steven Sears, 11 grandchildren: Keith Rittenhouse, Michelle LaSalle, Jon Rittenhouse, Brandy Hall, Shannon Willms, Carrie Hukill, Steven Sears, Jr, Carrie
Kidwell, Megan Fitzgibbons, Richard Litton II, Isabelle Lund and Jordan Bittinger, 4 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Imogene, his sister Margaret, his step-son Ray Kidwell, and step-daughter Melody Harris.
Viewing will be held at Perez Family Funeral Home (1347 Del Norte Rd, Camarillo, CA) on Thursday, August 13 from 3 pm -7:00 pm. Graveside Funeral services will be held on Friday August 14, 2015 at 1:00pm in the El Sereno section at Inglewood Cemetery in Inglewood, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s name to the American Lung Association.
