Robert Darnell Levette
Port Hueneme, CA
Darnell departed his life on earth July 23, 2012, and is now present with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born May 21, 1958, to Robert and Christine Levette in Long Beach, Calif.
His elementary school years were in San Francisco, until his family moved to Oxnard in 1970. He attended Fremont Jr. High and graduated from Oxnard High in 1976, attending both Moorpark and Oxnard Colleges.
At age 14, Darnell first met Denise Reese, the two later became high school sweethearts. In 1971,little did he know, while spending one semester in Spanish
class that she would one day become his adoring wife.
On June 18, 1976, their romance began and after a fouryear courtship; they married on August 30, 1980. In 1994, they moved to Port Hueneme where they raised their three Kids. On August 30; they celebrated 32 years of marriage.
Darnell and his family have been part of the Church body at South Coast Fellowship since 1987 as well as the family at Expression Ministries where he
held the title ‘the Manager’.
Darnell’s working careers began in high school at local retailers that included Two Guys and Thrifty’s Drug Stores in Oxnard. From 1978 to 1983, he worked
at Camarillo State Hospital in food service.
In 1983, he began his 15-year Civil Service career at NAS Point Mugu; retiring in 1998 as a Quality Assurance Specialist.
For a brief time he worked for Schwan’s Food, in Santa Barbara, and Burlington Coat Factory. He began employment at Oxnard Union High School in 2006 as Campus Supervisor later transitioning his position to Para-Educator working with students with special needs. He remained employed at Oxnard High until April 1, 2012, until his disability retirement.
In the 90’s, Darnell enjoyed involvement on the sports field teaching fundamentals of baseball and football to kids and teens where he was known as
“Coach Darnell” at Pt. Hueneme Little League and Rhino Youth Football. He was also an avid die-hard 49ers fan.
Darnell was described by others as a ‘good guy’; kindhearted yet straightforward. When he said it; he meant it; and he meant what he said. On
high school campus, he was nick- named ‘Shaft’ due to his disciplinarian but ‘cool’ demeanor.
He loved people and he loved life but nothing touched his heart more than being called ‘Pappy’ and spending time spoiling his four grandchildren that he affectionately called ‘muh babeez’.
He leaves behind his faithful wife, Denise; daughter, Tejah (hubby Robert); sons, Romayne and Gherrett; grandchildren,Dominique, Robert Jr., Alexander,
and Jayven; goddaughters, Marchelle and Nicole.
He also leaves to mourn, his mother, Christine Chester; stepfather, Willie Chester Sr., sisters, Karen Cantu (hubby Eddie), Nadra Levette; brothers,
Ivan Levette, Myron Levette (wife Tira); and an army of nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends. His father, Robert Levette Sr., precedes him in death.

will be Saturday, August 4,
2012, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at
South Coast Fellowship, 4050
