Richard Judson Libby

d. July 24, 2008

Richard Libby passed away Thursday, July 24th, 2008. Born August 14, 1957 in Waterville, Maine, Rick grew up in Fairfield Center, Maine. He attended Weber State College in Ogden, Utah where he met his future wife, Madeline Madrigal. Rick spent his early career days building power lines, allowing him to crisscross the country and live in small towns and cities in South Carolina, Utah, Florida, and California. He later found a way to combine his love of the game of golf and the food business by working at golf and country clubs in the West. For over 20 years, Rick brought his positive attitude and expertise to clubs in Utah, Washington and California. Loved by members and employees alike, Rick exemplified true leadership and was a friend to all. Always full of energy, he would walk up to greet you, hand extended, with a grip like a hand holding a 9-iron. Rick will be remembered for his outstanding character, his Pollyanna attitude, and his example to others. One of Rick’s favorite mottos was “It CAN be done” and he lived his life to prove it. His laughter and the warmth of his eyes showed his genuine appreciation for this wonderful life. To friends and family, Rick and Madeline were destined to be together as best friends and life partners. Their dedication to each other stands as an amazing testimony to their love and commitment to each other. He taught all of us what it truly means to be a grateful person, outstanding father and loving friend, brother, son and husband. While we all grow older and feel the effects of old age, Rick will always be young and full of that Libby energy. We will hold the memories we shared and the lessons he taught us close to our hearts. Rick’s family includes his best friend and wife Madeline, children Jean, Steve and Ray, his mom Virginia, and older siblings Judy, Jim and Steve. Brothers and sisters-in-law as well as nieces and nephews, cousins and friends are saddened by this loss. His father, Philip, preceded Rick in death. Memorial services will be held on Sunday July 27th at 1:06 p.m. at Conejo Valley Community Church, 750 Erbes Road, Thousand Oaks 91362. Memorial remembrances can be made to Barrio Logan College Institute at www.blci.org 1807 Main St., San Diego, CA 92113, or the Rick & Madeline Libby Family Foundation (Contributions payable to the Rick & Madeline Libby Family Foundation c/o Summit Trust Company, 5854 S.
