Our beloved brother, Richard Cheveres (1936 - 2010), passed away June 30 after a short battle with cancer at 74 years of age. An Oxnard native, he graduated from Oxnard High School in 1955 and received an AA degree from Ventura College in 1969. He had two sons from a previous marriage.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gregorio and Maria Cheveres, and is survived by his brothers, Lt. Col. Robert Cheveres (USAF) and George Cheveres, and sisters, Margie Perlingos, Rosemarie Holland, Doris Caplan, and Carmen Cheveres.
Richard was called "the professor" because of his glasses and his love of reading books and listening to fine music. He joined Civil Air Patrol in his youth, joined the Coast Guard reserve, and finally the US Army. he served his country well. A shy, private man, he worked as a driver for the library system of Ventura County for 25 years. As the oldest of seven children, Richard would take his siblings on hikes, take them up on the roof of the house to point out star constellations, and to the beach for wienie roasts.
The service will be a private family affair and he will be buried alongside his parents at Ivy Lawn Cemetery, Ventura.
