Rev. Richard Ewing Brown, Jr., Ret., of Ojai, CA, was born January 28, 1922, in San Dimas, CA. He passed away after a short illness on August 19, 2011 at the age of 89.
Dick served with the Seabees during WWII at Pearl Harbor and on the Philippine island of Samar. He began a professional singing career with the Charles E. Fuller Old Fashion Revival Hour Quartet and also sang on the Country Church of Hollywood’s daily radio programs, later founding the Old Fashion Revival Hour Ministry which is still broadcast today on radio stations throughout the world. Dick was called to Christian ministry in 1949 and attended Fuller Seminary and Texas Christian University. Dick held pastorates in Texas, Oklahoma and California, retiring from professional service at Belmont Christian Church in Fresno, California, in 1995. During his career he was also Executive Director of three anti-poverty and economic opportunity agencies, and was active in both the Lions and the Kiwanis Clubs. He continued serving in the community and his local church throughout his life teaching Sunday school, serving on the church school board and actively participating in missions work. His hobbies included golf, tennis, hiking, singing and fishing. For many years, Dick was active in the Church of Sequoias, serving as a park pastor in two National Parks.
He is survived by two brothers, his loving wife Margaret Ann, 9 children and their spouses, 32 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, along with numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 9 at 11am at the First Baptist Church in Ojai. In lieu of flowers please make a donation under Richard's name to First Baptist Church of Ojai Missionaries.
