Reynaldo Garcia

d. March 28, 2018

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Reynaldo Garcia; husband, father and grandfather. Reynaldo was born to Lucio and Guadalupe Garcia on January 6, 1953 in Mexicali, Mexico. Our Lord called him home on March 28th to join his parents, brothers Lucio and Antonio (Jose) and sister Maria in eternal life. At a young age his family moved to Moorpark from Oxnard, this is where he went to school and graduated from Moorpark Memorial Union High School in 1971. He went on to join the United States Marines in July 1974. While serving, Reynaldo married RosLyn Martinez in Nov. 1975 and a new journey began. Honorably discharged as Corporal in July 1977 he sought work close to home. 1978 he began working for the Moorpark Unified School District where he remained until retirement in 2010. As a kid he developed a love for basketball. When he reached high school his close friends and teammates nicknamed him "B.B." . Though basketball held his sports heart, he loved all sports and was a true, USC fan, through and through. He enjoyed camping, playing horseshoes, his yearly fishing trips with his tight group of close friends and his weekly trips to the Chumash Casino to play Keno. He also played men's slow-pitch softball and often would recount the impressive plays and games he was a part of. Reynaldo was a lifelong member of this community. He, like most members of our school district, believed in the importance and safety of our youth. Many will remember him as their bus driver, some may also have had him as a coach on the baseball, softball or soccer fields, or the basketball court. His coaching began with his eldest children in the early 80s, and finally concluded with his grandson in 2014. He was a co-worker and a friend to so many throughout his life. His friends may recall that when he went out to eat at a restaurant, he ALWAYS took his own jalapenos with him tucked away in his pocket; one for him and one in case anyone else wanted one. He was also well known for his spicy salsa and menudo he would make to share on special occasions. Reynaldo is survived by his wife of 42 years, RosLyn; his eldest daughter Gina Garcia; son Evan Garcia; daughter Brittney Garcia; grandchildren Alexander Garcia, twins Sophia and Angelica Garcia, Edward “Eddie” O’Leary, and Cyanna Garcia. He also leaves behind his large family of nieces, nephews, cousins and his immense number of friends he held so dear. Though his passing comes as an unexpected sadness, we find comfort in knowing he is at peace and lived a life full of big smiles, loud laughs and tremendous love. We will honor him on Thursday, April 12, 2018 with a Rosary at 7pm (viewing from 5pm - 9pm) at the Perez Family Funeral Home in Camarillo (1347 Del Norte Rd, Camarillo, CA 93010). On Friday, April 13, 2018 Mass will be held at 10am at Holy Cross Church in Moorpark (13955 Peach Hill Rd, Moorpark, CA 93021). He will be committed to his eternal resting place, with full military honors, at Assumption Cemetery (1380 Fitzgerald Rd, Simi Valley, CA 93065) immediately following Mass. For those who would like to continue celebrating Reynaldo, a reception will follow at the Arroyo Vista Community Park (4550 Tierra Rejada Rd, Moorpark, CA 93021).
