Refugio “Cuca” Velasquez Godinez, 82, beloved widow, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020, at Maywood Acres Healthcare in Oxnard, California.
Refugio “Cuca” was born in Ciudad, Juarez, Mexico, and had been a resident of Moorpark for 68 years. At the age of 22 years, she began working at Egg City Ranch in Moorpark, where she worked for 35 years as Quality inspector. During this time Egg City Ranch was known as the world’s largest egg-production ranch.
Our Mom met the love of her life at the age of 14 and they married at age 19 and celebrated 43 wonderful years of marriage together. She was a giving person who always had her heart and home open to all who needed help. She and our Dad would annually prepare gifts and take them to family members in Mexico. Refugio loved singing at family gatherings, and she loved and cherished her family. Our Mom was known by others to be a “tough and strong” woman from raising 5 boys, and also known by all as the disciplinary “Tia Cuca.”
She was preceded in death by her husband Augustine Godinez II and son Javier V. Godinez. Also preceded in death this year by her brother Sixto Velasquez and six other siblings, with only one surviving brother, Chava Velasquez. Refugio “Cuca” is survived by 4 sons Augustine Godinez III and wife Amanda, Edward Godinez and his wife Teresa, Ramon Godinez and wife Nancy, and Arturo Godinez and wife Lynn as well as 2 granddaughters Anissa and Raelene Godinez; 6 grandsons Ray, Augustine IV, Ryan, Alex, Riley, and Aaron Godinez; and 7 great grandchildren: Andrea, Nick, Audrina, Landon, Jessie, Eilah, and Ryan Jr.
