Philip “Phil” Edward Carr, 61, returned to his heavenly home on February 6, 2014. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in Jesus Christ supported him in his struggle with melanoma and ultimately gave him peace.
Phil was born to Thomas and Joan Carr, in Ventura, CA on July 28, 1953. He was active in Boy Scouts earning his Eagle Scout rank in 1968. He graduated from Buena High School in 1971 followed by graduation from Chico State University in 1975 with a degree in Recreation Administration. He was an Analyst for the State of California, Employment Development Department for 25 years and with the Department of Aging for 6 years.
Phil was blessed with a loving family. He married Leilani Jo Damron on November 17, 1979 in Chico, CA. Phil raised his two children with patience, humor and kindness. From the very beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them in their walk.
Phil was kind and soft-spoken and he loved to talk with anyone he met. Phil had an easy way about him that encouraged others to share their lives making them instant friends. To Phil, he never met a stranger, only someone he hadn’t had a chance to get to know yet. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
Phil is survived by his wife, Lani; his son Jarrett (Lacey) of Glendora, CA; his daughter Allison of San Diego; brother Tom (Robin) of Camarillo, CA; sister Barbara Cranfill of Raton, New Mexico, father, Thomas “Tom-Bob” Carr of Ventura, CA; grandchildren Roland & Maya Carr; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Joan.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Helen Moon, the nurses and staff of the BioChemo unit at Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center for their attentive treatment and loving care.
A service celebrating Phil’s life will be held at Mount Cross Lutheran Church, Camarillo CA at 11:00 on February 21, with a reception to follow. Phil’s friend and minister, Pastor Chris Delfs of Life Pointe Christian Church, Elk Grove, CA will officiate the service. The family gratefully accepts prayers, condolences and memories and asks that any donations be made to the Melanoma Research Foundation.
