Nealy was born in 1927 to
Henry Edington and Rosetta
Clay in Pine Bluff, Ark. She was
raised and worked on the family
farm until the age of 15 when
she came to Bakersfield to live
with her aunt. Nealy moved to
Oakland in her early twenties
and while working at the naval
base she met and married Willie
H. Zachery, a Naval Seaman, in
June of 1959. She traveled in the
United States and it’s territories
with her husband who was in
charge of supplies for naval bases.
In 1964 they settled in Oxnard
where they stayed and
raised their two daughters. Nealy
worked at a variety of jobs until
she received her degree in
college, then she started her career
at the Department of Social
Services in Ventura County. In
1979 Nealy moved to Ventura
with her daughters and purchased
a small residential care
facility. Nealy and her daughters
operated two facilities for the
next 30 years until she retired in
1999. Nealy enjoyed attending
her roses and beautiful flowers,
being involved with the residents
in her home and business,
and she felt blessed and joy
spending time with her only
grandchild. Nealy passed away
on the morning of Aug. 17,
2011, at the age of 84, at her
home, of a long illness. Nealy
had 12 brothers and three sisters,
and she leaves behind one
daughter, Zina Zachery-Kemp
and her husband Stanley Kemp,
and her only grandchild, Danielle
Kemp. Nealy leaves behind
five brothers and their
wives, Dr. Henry Lloyd Edington, Jr., Ira and Charlene Edington,
Charles and Adrianne
Edington, Larry and Donna Edington,
Terry Edington and fiancée
Donna; one sister, Jaunita
Bridgewater; and a host of nieces
and nephews. Nealy was preceded
in death by parents,
Henry Edington and Rosetta
Clay; ex-husband, Willie H.
Zachery; daughter, Donna Zachery;
brothers, Curtis, Dorsey,
Clifford, Bernard, Kenny Edington,
William Gardner and John
Humphrey; sisters, Naomi Edington
and Elnora Jackson.
