The sad news comes from Camarillo, California of the death of Michael (Mike) Roger McKee on March 28, 2021. Mike had been in ill health for many years. He fought his last battle long and hard for many weeks but to no avail.
Mike was born on January 03, 1958 in Rock Island, IL and graduated from Rock Island High School in 1976. He served in the US Navy in his youth. He worked in construction in Florida for 30 years before moving to California and retiring in 2016.
Mike leaves behind his wife, Carol Mitchell McKee at the family home in Camarillo. He also leaves behind his mother, Patricia Hines Cross of Rock Island, and his father, Roger (Ginny) McKee of Moline. Mike leaves two sisters, Melissa McKee Williams of Moline, Stacy (Jamey) McKee Coates, of Rock Island and a half brother, Tony Cross of Rock Island. He also leaves behind his stepson, Wes Godfrey (Jasmin) and two grandsons, Alexander and David Godfrey all of Camarillo, CA.
He has two aunts, an uncle, one niece, six nephews, and several cousins. Mike was predeceased by his first wife, Vickie Fuller McKee, his sisters, Pamela Carol McKee, Sherry McKee Campbell and his stepfather, Larry Cross.
He was an avid sports fan and a lifelong fan of the St Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play their various sport activities. He also loved putting together jigsaw puzzles and reading. His favorite activity was spending any spare moment at the beach in his RV at The Rincon, in Ventura, CA.
He loved long walks on the beach listening to his favorite band “Rage Against the Machine” with his earphones on.
Mike had requested no funeral services and wished to have his ashes scattered in the ocean near his favorite camping spot.
Mike was a good man, kind and caring, he was dearly loved and will be missed. He will be in our hearts forever.
