Matthew (Matt) Stott, 27, beloved husband, father, brother, son, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend’s sun rose on December 2, 1986 and set on May 23, 2014. Matt was the youngest of his siblings born to George and Regina Stott (Patrick). Matt was born and as a small child reared in Camarillo, CA. In his teenage years Matt’s family settled in Ojai, CA where Matt attended high school, fell in love, and later created a family and home.
Matt’s greatest accomplishment was his beloved family. Matt first met his wife Britteny (Cocklin) Stott at the young tender age of 14. After first experiencing a teenage love the two went their own separate paths and later reconnected in their early 20s. It was instantaneous love when Matt and Britteny reunited and the two remained inseparable until his passing. In addition to their love for one another Matt and Britteny shared their love through the creation of their children Skyler (6), Kourtney (1), and Violet (expected arrival September 2014).
Beyond the happiness that Matt found in his wife and children, Matt found enjoyment in the simple things of life- such as working on cars, a day at the beach, hauling hay, and riding dirt bikes with his son Skyler.
Among those who knew Matt he was most notably known for his sense of humor and loyalty. He was never short of a joke or a good quick come back. He was witty, clever, and definitely kept you on your toes. Matt’s friends have described him as a loyal friend- dependable and trustworthy. Many of Matt’s friends would call to catch up and end up talking for hours- Matt was truly a valued friend, confidant, and support among many.
Matt’s spirit and love are survived by his wife Britteny, son Skyler, daughters Kourtney and Violet, father George, step-mother D’Anira (“D”), mother Regina (Reggie), brother Nick, sister-in-law Natasha, niece Marli, sister Breanna, father-in-law Scott Cocklin, mother-in-law Tracy Cocklin, sister-in-law Lauren Cocklin, brother-in-law Nick Cocklin, and a wealth of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
While we will continue to lift up Matt’s spirit and relive his memory through stories, pictures, his wife, and children we can only hope that his legacy will live on and we will continue to dance his dance.
In memory of Matt:
"The Dance" By Garth Brooks
“Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance
Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all
And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain but I'd have had to miss the dance.”
