Marold C. Strand, a long-time resident of Camarillo, California, passed away on December 29, 2016 at the age of 87. Born on August 7, 1929 to Clarence and Naomi (Peterson) Strand in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Marold was the youngest of six children. Marold and his siblings – Clarice, Carl, Vivian, Vincent and Verner – were raised by their parents (of Swedish heritage) in Gowrie, Iowa. Spending most of his younger years on a farm, Marold developed a strong work ethic by tending to chores. During high school, Marold demonstrated his love for music by playing in the band and singing in the chorus. Marold attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota, where he met his future wife, Jeanne, and graduated with a BA degree in Music Education. Marold attended Navy Officer Candidate School from June-October 1952 and received a commission as an Ensign. He served during the Korean War on two destroyers, with Long Beach, California as his homeport. Marold and Jeanne planned their wedding via cablegrams while he was aboard ship and were married in Minneapolis, Minnesota on January 31, 1953. After he was released from active duty in 1955, Marold started graduate school at the University of Minnesota and received his MBA-Accounting in June 1957. Having enjoyed the wonderful weather in California during their “Navy days”, Marold and Jeanne decided to “head West” with their newborn son after graduation. They first settled in San Diego, California where Marold worked for Haskins & Sells as a staff accountant. In 1960, an employment opportunity brought Marold and his family (which now included a newborn daughter) to Ventura County, where over the years Marold became a partner in three CPA firms. After retiring as a CPA in 1983, Marold was a self-employed securities broker and financial planner until 1999. Aside from his professional work, Marold helped design and build two family homes in Camarillo, enjoyed singing in the church choir, woodworking, gardening (especially roses), playing bridge, and improving his golf game. Family vacations included trips back to Minnesota and Iowa and camping adventures to many national parks. Marold was a leader in Scout Troop #253, for which he planned and guided several backpack trips, including 50-milers in the High Sierras and summiting Mt. Whitney. Marold and Jeanne traveled extensively throughout the world, with Puerto Vallarta being one of their favorite destinations. In his later years, Marold was blessed by many kind family members and friends who visited and kept in touch with him. Marold was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne, his parents and all of his siblings. He worked hard for his family and was extremely proud of his children and grandchildren. Marold is survived by his son, Gregg (wife Jenny and their children Aaron and Jolene) and daughter, Marcia Ingersoll (husband Keith and their children Kyle, Bryce and Melissa) and many nieces and nephews. Marold also cherished his two great-grandchildren, James and Iris Ingersoll. A memorial service will be held for Marold at Mount Cross Lutheran Church in Camarillo on Saturday, February 25, at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Mount Cross Lutheran Church.
