Marlene Mary Macias

d. December 3, 2016

Marlene Macias, age 79, has left us peacefully on December 3, in her home in Camarillo, California. She was surrounded by all her children, grandchildren and friends. She was born October 7, 1937 in Cold Spring, Minnesota to Thomas and Nellie Bohnen. Marlene was the fifth child of five girls and one boy. She lived in Minnesota until she was18 years old where she set a goal to travel throughout the United States and eventually finished her road trip in California. When she returned home to Minnesota, she told her parents she was going back to California to live permanently. Upon return, she met and married Carlos Macias in 1960 in Los Angeles and was soon blessed with three sons and two daughters. Marlene was an amazing single mother who raised all five of her children. In addition to working multiple jobs, she miraculously found time to go back to college to earn her Associate of Arts degree. This made a lasting impression which is reflected in each one of her children graduating from college. Marlene worked over 50 years starting as a key punch operator and then gradually working her way up to Senior Operations Manager. After 21 years, she retired from AGIA in Carpinteria. In her retirement, she volunteered as a local Ombudsmen as an advocate for residents of nursing homes and residential care facilities for the elderly. Marlene's greatest passion was spending time with family and friends. She was a very strong, beautiful, warm hearted, courageous, independent, and an inspirational mother and friend. She enjoyed fishing, camping, playing cards, traveling, and was a long time parishoner of St. Mary Magdalen of Camarillo. Marlene's spirit lives on through her 5 children and 6 grandchildren. Marlene is survived by Keith and Yvonne Macias, grandaughter Keely, Kevin and Elisia Macias, Kail and Elizabeth Macias, grandaughters Kaila and Lauren, Kelly Macias, grandson Connor, Kari and Dave Hare, grandsons, Michael and Jacob. She will be missed dearly but will forever remain in our hearts. Family, friends, and others whose lives she touched are invited to reminisce, grieve, and support each other celebrating her life at her Rosary and Memorial Services. Marlene's Rosary will be held Thursday, December 15th, 2016 at 7:00 PM at The Perez Family Chapel located 1347 Del Norte Road, Camarillo, CA 93010. The Memorial Services will be held Friday, December 16th, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Chapel located at 2532 Ventura Blvd., Camarillo CA 93010. Marlene was a lifelong contributor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be donated to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
