Mark Christian Borchard, 60, died at his home in Somis, CA, on February 19, 2014, of heart failure. Mark was born on January 10, 1954, to John W. “Jack” Borchard and Patricia C. Borchard. Mark was a 1972 graduate of Santa Clara High School. He attended the University of Southern California and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo returning home to work on the ranch.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Cynthia, two daughters, Lauren and Leslie, and step-son Ryan Kretzer. He is survived by his sisters Elise Roginiel of Phoenix, Corinne Burdullis (Joe) of Oxnard, Monica Beck (Ken) of Somis, Anne Borchard of Ojai and his older brother, John W. Borchard Jr. (Nancy) of Somis. Mark also leaves behind fourteen nieces and nephews, twenty-nine great nieces and nephews, and two great great nephews. Of course, Mark leaves behind numerous cousins and has been blessed to have two of his father’s sisters - Marilyn Schreiber of Newport Beach and Virginia Marshall of Laguna Hills – for all of his life.
Mark was a fifth generation farmer on the Oxnard plain. For many years Mark farmed row crops and vegetables, lemons and avocados with and for his father, Jack Borchard. Both father and son enjoyed working together, sharing each other’s company, and pausing for a special kind of levity. Mark felt Jack’s loss deeply, as much as anyone could.
An avid hunter and horseman, Mark loved the outdoors and lived his life with vigor. He enjoyed many safaris to South Africa with Cindy and was a life-time member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). He was a member of Las Posas County Club, Ventura County Sheriff’s Posse and Rancheros Adolfo. He served on the California Avocado Commission Board as well as managing the Rancho Canada Water Company.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. with rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24th at Perez Family Funeral Home, 1347 Del Norte Rd., Camarillo. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Feb. 25th, at 10 a.m. at Santa Clara Catholic Church, 323 South “E” Street, Oxnard. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.
