Marie Therese Bentley

Marie Bentley, Moorpark 1928-2011 Many of you may know Marie from volunteering and then working for the Moorpark Unified School District for over 40 years, or her time working as a Hostess at Wendy’s, or maybe she helped you get across the street when she was a Crossing Guard many years ago. You may also know Marie from her 50 or so years of devotion at Holy Cross Church, or from the Senior Center where she enjoyed helping out with the weekly Brown Bag Program and playing Bingo with her friends. It’s also possible that you may know Marie because she was the person that always had a friendly smile for you… whenever she saw you. That was Mom. She enjoyed people and life, and couldn’t wait for her next adventure to Las Vegas, Indian Bingo, or ANY Bingo Venue! She was so proud of the “Brand New Car” she won in the Showcase Showdown on the Price Is Right with Drew Carrie just over 3 short years ago. Marie’s life was never boring, but it did come with challenges. She raised 4 children along with her Beloved Husband, Robert “Red”, who passed away in 1998; her Mitral Heart Valve was replaced with a mechanical St. Jude Valve in 1999; she overcame a broken back in 2007; and she lost her youngest Son, Richard, in 2009. Her strong will and love of life propelled her to continue on, until recently when her heart couldn’t keep up. Marie passed peacefully on February 2, 2011 and will be re-united with Red and Rich in Heaven. Marie is survived by her Children: Rosemary Calkins, James Bentley and Cath Walker; Son-in-Laws: Larry Calkins and Mike Walker; Daughter-in-Law: Sarah Bentley; Grand Children: Michelle Walker-Florio and Michelle’s Husband, Dane Florio, Jeanne and Christopher Calkins, Whisper, Willow and Wreef Bentley; Great Grand Son: JoJo Calkins; Caring Extended Family, Amazing Neighbors, Good Friends and All of Marie’s Bingo Buddies. There will be a Remembrance Ceremony at Holy Cross Church, Moorpark, on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 7:00 pm. Funeral and Mass will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11:30 am at Holy Cross Church with a procession to Assumption Cemetery, Simi Valley, where Marie will be laid to rest. Reception to follow at the home of Mike and Cath Walker, Simi Valley.
