Maria Del Consuelo Ferrel

d. February 4, 2012

Maria del Consuelo Ferrel joined the heavenly army of God on February 4, 2012. As she took her final breaths, she lay surrounded by family and friends in her Ventura home. It was a fitting testament that so many were at her side as she had been there for them in life. Our beautiful Mother, also known as “Mama Maria,” was born September 27, 1952 in Cd. Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Jose and Maria Ferrel. She was one of three children, but the only one to survive childhood. She was raised briefly in Texas and Santa Maria before moving to Santa Barbara and graduating from Bishop Garcia Diego High School in 1971. She ultimately moved to Ventura to purchase a home she had always worked so hard for. Her interests included spending time with family, friends, traveling and shopping. She enjoyed commiserating with friends while partaking in a night full of dancing and libations. However, she devoted much of her time and energy to loving and providing for her family. As the sole parent, it fell upon her to provide and support the household to the best of her ability. She performed that function with great care, love, responsibility and success. She worked for the Housing Authority of the County of Santa Barbara and the Rescue Mission’s Lighthouse for Women and Children. Mom selflessly dedicated her time taking care of others as much as she did for her very own family. Maria is survived by her daughters Emma Esperanza Ortiz, Alma Rosa Quintana, Nora Linda Garcia; son Julian Emanuel Ferrel; grandchildren Xavier Medrano, Marissa Quintana, Cassidy Quintana, Christian Rangel and Kayleb Ezra Garcia-Mendez. Rosary will be held on Friday, February 17th, at 7pm at Perez Family Funeral Home, 1347 Del Norte, Camarillo, CA 93010. Mass will be Saturday, February 18th, at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, 10800 Henderson Road, Ventura, CA 93004.
