Marcelene "Marcy" Jo Switzer
Ojai, CA
Marcelene (Marcy) Jo Switzer passed away Sept. 4, 2011 at her home in
Ojai, CA. She was 79 years old. She was raised in Chandler, AZ by her
parents Stanford A. and Mabel Gossett Harley. She attended schools in
Chandler and graduated from Chandler High School in 1950. She was a
drummer in the high school band, on the all star basketball team, tennis
team, volleyball team and swimming team and was a member of the Honor
Society. After high school graduation she worked at the Grand Canyon and
Williams Air Force Base and attended Arizona State College at Tempe.
In 1951, while attending the Phoenix rodeo, she met the love of her life,
Kenneth Switzer, a Wyoming cowboy. They spent 3 days together and he
asked her to marry him. They were married 30 days later in Prescott, AZ
August 3, 1951. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary
in Ojai, CA where they have lived since the 60's.
Marcelene worked in the real estate business for many years and her hobbies were playing golf and tennis. Between 1967-1987 she was the Soule Park Golf club
champion 7 times. She loved all sports and especially the horse races and kept
up with them every week. Kenneth always had a race horse in the making.
Marcy loved her kids and grandkids and great grandkids and loved fishing, riding,
and in general horsing around with them. She always had a good time wherever
she went.
Marcelene is survived by her husband, Kenneth, her brother Stan Harley and
wife Shirley of Kansas; daughter Kaleen and Dee Dunning of Ashland, MT; son
Jeff and Debbie Switzer of Ojai, CA; daughter Cindy and Peter Mohseni of
Sheridan, WY. Her 10 grandchildren Mika and (James) Leno, WY, Teka Brock,
WY, Carrie (Tyler) Turner, Ojai, Heather (Matt) Brown Ventura, Jordan Switzer,
Ojai; Shellie Switzer, San Diego, Blane Switzer, Ojai; Jackson (Julia) Mohseni
CO, Logan Mohseni, MT, Gus Mohseni, CO; her 4 great grandchildren:
Teegan, Tavy and Tate Leno, Sheridan, WY, Irelyn Turner of Ojai, CA and
numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. We love you Nana.
