Life Legacy
Manuel Moreno Gutierrez went home to our Lord on December 27, 2017 at the age of 98.
He was born April 16, 1919 in Del Ray, California. After his mother died when he was age 5, he was raised by his father in Forsyth, Montana. There he learned to work, farm and ride horses.
Manuel was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Della, his sons Ernest and Gilbert Gutierrez and granddaughter Lisa Gutierrez, as well as his five brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his sons Manuel and Ralph Gutierrez and daughter Diane Gutierrez Palomino. He had ten grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Manuel served in the Army-Air Force during World War II in the India/Burma Theatre. He faithfully displayed his US flag on a daily basis over the last several decades. He was a proud member of the Laborers Union Local 585, being their oldest retired member at the time of his death. Manuel worked as a cement finisher and mason.
Manuel enjoyed fishing at Lake Piru, even possessing a 2017 fishing license. He was a prolific gardener, canning excess chiles and tomatoes, and giving away produce to relatives and neighbors. He was known to many as “Montana”.
During the last 35 months, Manuel was cared for by his daughter Diane and her husband Al Palomino. He enjoyed seeing his great grandchildren Alfred, Anthony, Rosemary and Joseph on a daily basis.
