It is with a heavy heart to announce the passing of great man, Manuel Garcia, on Tuesday November 14th in his home, surrounded by love. Manuel recently celebrated his 71st birthday. He was an amazing son, father, papa, brother, nino, cousin, and friend.
Manuel is survived by his daughter, Lori Ghassedi and her four children.
Grandchildren; Jacqueline Mendoza (Joshua), Alyssa Mendoza (Felix III), Sy Ghassedi, and Gavyn Ghassedi. Great-grandchildren; Ford, Harlyn Walker, Kennedy Nicol & Felix IV. His beloved mother, Mercedes Garcia. Loving Sisters, Ester Garcia, Delia Garcia, Alicia Cobos, and Leticia Garcia as well as many nieces, nephews, and god-children.
Manuel moved to Ventura with his parents and younger sisters in 1957 at the age of 5 years old and has been a resident of Ventura County ever since. His love for baseball started when he played for Saticoy Little League and grew up to become an Angels fan. In addition to attending Buena High School, Manuel landed his first job as a gas station attendant in Saticoy. He then became a Cement Apprentice and was a member of the Plasterers & Cement Mason - Local 741. He mastered his trade and spent most of his career working for Lorenzana Construction and G&R Concrete. He retired from working in the field in 2017.
Manuel cherished spending time with his daughter, grandchildren, family, and friends. He was a true Dallas Cowboys fan and shared that love for the team with his daughter and grandsons. He loved his 1956 Chevy Bel Air. He also enjoyed going to car shows and the races to support Mike’s 3-Point Auto Drag Race Team with family and friends. Manuel loved camping and fishing at his favorite place, Hobson Beach. One of many special attributes about Manuel that will be missed is his passion to lend a helping hand and expect nothing in return (except a cold 18 pack of Budweiser). Manuel had a green thumb and he was always eager to share his home grown veggies. His home, especially the garage, was a place of great memories shared with family and friends since 1976.
Although he will be missed dearly by all of us here, we have peace in our hearts knowing that he is now in the presence of those he missed and loved. Manuels hard working hands can now rest… Until we meet again, watch over us all as our Guardian Angel.
The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Megan Mescher-Cox and her office for their genuine compassion, care, and love for Manuel as he fought diligently. Thank you Dr. Cox we are forever grateful for all you did. Special thanks to Dr. Warner Peng and the kind nurses at the Hematology and Oncology Specialist office. We are also very thankful for the care and compassion from Livingston Memorial Hospice.
