Leonard Cruz III

Leonard Victor Cruz III, beloved son, brother, godfather, uncle, grandson, and friend passed away on June 22, 2022, surrounded by his family. For those of us who knew and loved him, Lenny will always be remembered for his devotion to his family, sense of humor, and gentleness. His modest and understated style was striking. His was a life void of extravagance, materialism, or ego. He had an abundance of family, friends, and co-workers whom he knew deeply loved him. Lenny enriched his days by spending time at his family’s ranch with those he loved. Lenny was born on October 22, 1982, the eldest child of Leonard and Rosalie Cruz in Camarillo, CA. After growing up in Somis and graduating Adolfo Camarillo High School, he went on to study at California State University Channel Islands, earning his degree in business in 2008. His tenderness and passion for animals led him to pursue a career in the ranching and farming arena. He relished his work at Apricot Lanes and cherished his work family. He is best known in Ventura County through his hobby as a swine breeder. Along with his siblings, he was brought up in the 4-H and FFA community. Since then, his knowledge and dedication led him to receive a plethora of awards as a breeder across multiple county fairs in southern California. Lenny coupled his knowledge with his natural sense for animals to become a true ambassador for our county. His life’s purpose was to share his skills and wisdom with others, which he fulfilled by mentoring Ventura County’s youth in 4-H, FFA, and Grange. Lenny loved watching the kids compete and would help and guide them throughout their animal projects. While Lenny’s absence in this life leaves a void that can never be filled, his friends and family take comfort in knowing that his legacy will endure. Our prayers are that we will all trust and persevere in following our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and one day be reunited in Heaven. We will miss his sharp wit, barbequing, and his unrivaled salads – but know that he will live on through his siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Leonard Cruz III is survived by his parents, Leonard Jr. and Rosalie Cruz; brothers Daniel and Michael Cruz (wife Sara); sister Marissa Valenzuela (husband Chris); grandparents Leonard and Helen Cruz; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and his nieces and nephews whom he adored. Services will be held on Friday, July 8th at Holy Cross Church located at 13955 Peach Hill Rd. Moorpark, CA 93021. Rosary recitation from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Reception immediately following at Cruz Ranch located at 8555 North Grimes Canyon Road Moorpark, CA 93021.
