Leon Lewis Fennig July 12, 1923 - December 4, 2009 Leon Lewis Fennig, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and God’s servant was called home to his Lord and Savior. He passed peacefully at his home in Camarillo on December 4, 2009, at the age of 86. Leon was born in Adams County, Indiana to Fred and Cora Fennig. His older sister, Corene Steury, was followed by Ernest, Leon, Martel, and Brice. As a young boy, he worked on various farms where he developed a work ethic which served him well throughout his life. Leon loved learning and graduated high school as the valedictorian. While attending the University of Maryland, he was summoned to military duty in February 1943. He was a rifle sharp shooter serving his country on the front line in Central Europe and was honorably discharged in January 1946. After the service he continued his education at Taylor University in Upland, Indiana graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible. He moved to Pasadena, California to attend Fuller Theological Seminary where he earned a Master’s degree in Divinity in 1951. During his time at Fuller, he attended Missionary Church in Van Nuys, California. There Leon met the love of his life, Roberta Eileen Borror, whom he married on August 19, 1950. In May 1952, he was ordained to the ministry at Valley Baptist Church in Burbank, California. He taught numerous Sunday school classes over the years. He and his family moved from Burbank to Camarillo in 1963. In 1964, he opened Leon’s Upholstering and retired in 2001, after 37 years in business. Together they had three children; Randy, Lucinda and Laura. Leon and Roberta were happily married 59 years. Over the years, he enjoyed gardening, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with his wife and family. He was a devoted Christian and enjoyed teaching the Word of God. Leon was a kind, gentle, positive, honest and wonderful man who provided a loving home for his family. He is survived by his wife and 3 children, 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
