Kerstin B. “Kay” Maxe,
September 26, 1958 to December 21, 2010
Kerstin B. Maxe was born in Stockholm Sweden, the third of four sisters. Her work brought her into the banking system in Stockholm where she spent a number of years in various positions. Her passion was dogs and learning how to work with dogs. She made this a life study and became a certified dog behaviorist.
In 1996 she obtained a permanent residence card for the United States and moved here with her son Joakim. They settled in Ojai, California, where she started working with dogs. She eventually opened a business “Dog Friendly of Ojai” that specialized in training canines, as well as day care and overnight boarding.
In 2006 she went to work for the City of Ojai as an Office Specialist II in the City Manager’s department. Kay made many friends at City Hall and was a great student of municipal government. She greatly enjoyed her work and was particularly fond of editing English text, although her native language was Swedish. Kay was popular with her co-workers and her work was appreciated by management and Ojai’s City Council. Her helpful attitude and contagious laughter will be missed by her many friends at work.
In 2008 she became a proud citizen of the United States, joining thousands of immigrants carrying small U.S. flags and swearing allegiance to the U.S.A.
Kay was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in September 2009 and fought a brave battle against this disease that finally claimed her life.
She is survived by her son, Joakim Maxe of Gothenberg, Sweden, her parents, sisters, niece and nephews from Sweden and the U.S.
