Kenneth Heath Wood, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, January 26, 2015.
Ken was born on August 3, 1933 in Cleveland,Ohio but made his home in Oxnard. In 1951 at the age of 18, Ken entered the U.S. Navy. He was notably stationed at the Naval Air Base in Lemoore, CA also known as the home of the "Hornets" but later changed to the "Stingers" after his attack Squadron 113 aboard the USS Ranger's successful deployments during both the Vietnam war and Korean war. The ship received over 13 stars as well as Ken receiving numerous accommodations during his service including a Bronze Star. After 24 years of service, under 6 presidents from Truman to Ford, Cheif Wood retired.
Next he went to work for the United Postal Service in the Port Hueneme branch were he logged another 24 years before retiring again. Ken was married to Eleanor Wood for 50 years. They both shared a love for bowling, bingo, dancing and trips to Las Vegas. He had a genuine interest in reading as his large library of books in his den proves.
Ken was preceded in death by his loving wife Eleanor "Nora" Wood just 11 months ago and his parents Leo and Virginia Wood. He is survived by his children Becky Beltran (husband Robert), Henry "John" Ortega, Ron Cervantes (wife Teri), Tyrone Mckeown (and family), numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday, February 02, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Perez Family Funeral Home 1347 Del Norte Rd Camarillo. Burial will follow at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard CA.
