Josephine Reyes Rios, 70, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 surrounded by her large loving family. She was born March 20, 1951 the first of six children to John & Helen Reyes from Moorpark.
Josephine was the sweetest and most caring woman who adored her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always considered the well-being of others before her own. Seeing everyone happy around her is what made her the happiest.
She married her husband, Gustavo Rios Rodriguez, in 1967 and together they raised 3 sons and 3 daughters in the city of Moorpark. As a mother, she considered her children as her everything. She was always the first to call whenever her children were in need. Spending time with her children was not only her job but her priority. The best memories her children have with her is attending sports games. Josephine loved attending Dodger games in Los Angeles with her family. She also loved attending her youngest son, Anthony, baseball and football games. In agreement with her husband, they made all their children attend with them because they believed the best support someone can have is within their family.
In 1997, she moved to Mexico with her husband for retirement and resided there for 13 years. Alongside her husband, she helped pick strawberries and helped with transportation in the sale of strawberries. She loved her time in Mexico since she was always kept busy managing the strawberry fields with her husband and forming many relationships with many people in the town.
By 2010, she returned to California to live with her daughter, Velma and her family in Simi Valley. Josephine loved being close to her family and enjoyed the countless gatherings hosted in her daughter’s home. Josephine, like her mother Helen, loved looking her best. She’d loved to go to the salon to get her hair and nails done. She especially loved shopping, and always thought spoiling yourself was the best way to practice self love. Her sense of style was never dull, she always made sure to have a pop of color in her clothing with jewelry to match. She especially enjoyed spending her time at her favorite store, Walmart, even if she didn’t need anything specifically at that time. Lastly, Josephine just loved attending parties and enjoyed catching up with family members that she didn’t get to see on a daily basis.
She was an amazing woman with so many qualities, and she was the heart of her family that kept everyone together. She will always be remembered as a loving woman whose greatest passion was helping her family when in need. She is survived by her husband of 53 years Gustavo Rios Rodriguez; children Gustavo (Gus), Juan (Huero) & Alicia, Maria Lucia (Lucy) & Roberto, Velma & William, Leticia (Letty), Anthony & Gabriela (Gabby); 23 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; sisters Linda Reyes Romo & Lisa Reyes Ramos; and a large, loving extended family.
She is preceded in death by her parent’s John and Helen Reyes, brothers John R. Reyes (Junior), Randy Reyes, and Freddy Reyes.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you for the love, support, and prayers during this difficult time.
