Joseph Harvey Landry passed away peacefully at his home in Ventura on Sept. 23, 2011. He sadly lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 75. He is now at peace with his Lord Savior.
Harvey was born on Feb. 8, 1936, in Massachusetts. At an early age, his family relocated to Santa Barbara, where he grew up and graduated from Santa Barbara High School. Harvey married his high school sweetheart, Barbara (Weaver), and went to work with his father for Metropolitan Life. Harvey and Barbara settled in Ventura to raise their children: Karen, Alan, and Dale. In 1968, through Metropolitan Life, the family relocated to Germany.
While in Germany his wife Barbara died in a tragic car accident of which Harvey survived. He later went on to marry Birgitta Petre (Bibi) in Sweden in 1971. The family moved to Greece in 1973, returning to the United States in 1975. Harvey and Bibi had a daughter, Lara, in 1982. After living in several places in Ventura County, they finally settled in Ventura in 1989. After retiring from the Insurance business, he pursued his passion and started his own businesses: Sibes and Landry Construction. He continued his construction business up until the very end. Harvey was a true outdoorsman, enjoying golf, fishing, and his passion, hunting. He loved to tell the stories. He will dearly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara; father, Joseph; mother, Dora; and stepfather, Leo Brodeur. Harvey is survived by his wife of 40 years, Bibi; children, Karen (husband Dan) Votaw, Alan (wife Kim) Landry, Dale Landry, and Lara Landry; brother, Paul (wife Lorraine) Landry; niece, Renee; nephew, Christopher; grandchildren, Tony, Jenny, Greg, Melissa, Geoffrey, Kassondra, Desiree, and Brandon; and 11 great-grandchildren.
