Joseph Elliott Casselman July 31, 1989 - December 6, 2014 Joseph (Joe) Elliott Casselman, formerly of Pawley's Island, South Carolina passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 6, 2014 at his home in Ventura. Born July 31, 1989 in Charleston, SC, Joe was the son of the late Harold Gregory "Butch" Casselman of Pawleys Island, SC and Lisa Claire Dickinson of Oxnard, CA. Survivors include his mother and caregiver, Lisa Claire (Steve) Dickinson of Oxnard, his sister, Caroline Casselman of Georgetown, SC, brother Nicholas Casselman of Pawleys Island, SC, grandfather John H. Wilson, Jr. of Pawleys Island, SC, three nieces, Cameron Jones, Sydney Jones and Aubrey Casselman, and step-sisters Katrina Dickinson, Sara Dickinson and Stephi Dickinson. Joe was a very humble and caring young man with a big heart and great sense of humor. He had a never-ending positive attitude despite being born with spina bifida and being a lifelong wheelchair user. He loved his family and was pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice at Ventura College. He was a graduate of Brainerd High School in Brainerd, MN where he played goalie on the varsity Adaptive Floor Hockey Team and participated in bowling and track and field for Special Olympics Minnesota. He briefly lived in Reno, NV where he loved playing the slots and enjoyed spending summers in Pawleys Island, SC attending the Joy School summer camp. Joe's endearing spirit, his perseverance and beaming smile touched the hearts of everyone he met. He was a true inspiration that never let life get him down, no matter what challenges he faced. A reviewal and memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Perez Family Funeral Home in Camarillo, where family and friends will be received. His ashes will be spread at a later date at his hometown of Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
