Jose Luis Vaca, Sr, 70, passed away, Thursday, December 17, 2015 at his home. Jose Luis was born March 5, 1945 in Ojo de Agua, Michoacán, México to Francisco Vaca and Elodia Ceja. Jose Luis married his best friend Socorro Lopez Castro in Michoacán, Mexico and together they raised their two sons with a lot love and humility. From the very beginning, Jose Luis dedicated time to his children and encouraged them to always do their very best. He was blessed with two beautiful grandchildren whom he loved and enjoyed spending time with. Jose Luis came to Moorpark in 1967. While working at Egg City, he became involved with the César Chávez United Farm Workers Union and participated in the April 1975 strike at the ranch to get higher wages and better working conditions for employees. He was a union organizer for UFW and later worked in campus maintenance for California Lutheran University and Moorpark Unified School District. Jose Luis had immeasurable love for his family, friends, and community. He always had a kind word to share and always encouraged the new generation to work hard; “Echale ganas” he would often say. Jose Luis loved mariachi music and possessed an enormous and beautiful talent for singing. Jose Luis is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Socorro; his sons Juan Carlos, Jose Luis (Ana); his grandchildren Julio Cesar and Julieta; and his brothers, Frank “Paco”(Lorie), Mario(Ana), Salvador (Soledad), sisters Berta and Maria(Javier) and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation for Jose Luis will be held on Tuesday December 22, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Saint Rose of Lima Church in Simi Valley. The Rosary will begin at 6:30 p.m. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 23, at Saint Rose of Lima Church in Simi Valley at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Simi Valley.
