John Frank Lister, 88, of Santa Paula, California, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, after a long illness. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
John was born on April 27th, 1935 in Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma, to Rena and William Lister. He moved to McLean, Texas, when he was three years old and grew up on a ranch. He loved his horses and working the land. He had a lifelong love for gardening, and loved to tell stories of his favorite horse, Tony, and his loyal dog, Red. Growing up he loved to spend time with his grandpa McClean, with whom he was inseparable.
He married his soulmate, Mary Lou West, in Texas where they started a family. They moved to Santa Paula in 1964, where John worked as a water technician for Santa Paula Water Works for 36 years. He retired in 2000, but never stopped working hard. He spent long days in his garden, and was always there when anyone in his family needed help. He could fix almost anything.
John is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Lou Lister; his sons, Jack Lister of Bakersfield and David Lister of Camarillo; his daughter, Lisa Haller of Santa Paula; his grandchildren Matt, Melissa, Bradley, and Brian; and his three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Rena (2000) and William (1979);his brother, Jack Lister (1979);grandpa John Ed McClean who died in 1966.
John will be remembered for his kindness, humor, and much more. He touched the lives of many. Until we meet again, rest in peace, John.
