Jess de Guzman passed away peacefully on July 23, 2007, in Simi Valley at the age of 83, after a courageous battle against a long-term illness.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, Jess is survived by his wife, Rose; sons, Jerry and Gary; daughter, Mildred; grandchildren, Merissa and Ryan; and sisters, Felixberta and Lyr; and brother, Rudy.
Jess will be dearly missed.
A resident of Simi Valley for more than two decades, Jess was an avid pianist and music lover, sports aficionado, history buff, staunch Republican, an enthusiast of horse races and a chowhound par excellence. His career in insurance claims management was an enduring one, spanning more than three decades.
Born and educated in the Philippines, with law degree in hand, Jess immigrated to the United States in 1969. Jess de Guzman's quest for a better life took him and his family to Chicago, Ill.; Dallas, Texas; and finally to Los Angeles. His life was indeed a successful immigrant story!
Visitation and a vigil took place July 31 at Rose Family Funeral Home in Simi Valley. Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 2, at St. Bede's Church in La Cañada. A graveside service will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills.
